Catherine is a specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Christchurch Hospital, and also works as a Clinical Senior Lecturer for the University of Otago where she convenes medical student gastroenterology teaching. She studied medicine at the University of Otago and then completed medical specialist training (FRACP) in several specialties including gastroenterology and hepatology as well as clinical pharmacology in Christchurch.
She spent a number of years in Sydney Australia, completing PhD studies at the University of Sydney. During that time she was also involved in research at the Salk Institute (California), worked for an Asia Pacific Drug Safety and Surveillance Centre, and was involved in liver and endoscopy clinics at Westmead Hospital in Sydney. She has recently returned from a clinical sabbatical at the prestigious King's Liver Transplant Unit at the King's College Hospital in London. In 2015 she was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Otago, Christchurch in recognition of her research, teaching and service contributions.
Catherine is currently actively involved in many specialist societies, including the New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. She regularly contributes papers and speaks at conferences, has been a Clinical Advisor to bpacnz, and is a member of a New Zealand Medical Council Advisory Panel. She is involved in many clinical trials of new pharmaceuticals and is passionate about providing excellence in all aspects of patient care.
